Day 5 - School Experience in Shinjo East High School

Beautiful weather in Shinjo!

After spending the weekend with our host families, today was our first day to experience authentic Japanese school life! We were so excited to take advantage of this valuable experience and spoke as much Japanese to Shinjo students as we could.

We attended various lessons with the Shinjo students, and in English lessons we presented a PowerPoint to introduce Townsville and school life at TGS. Our students felt confident in English lessons but not so much in Maths!

The Shinjo students were very happy and excited when Miss Pollack delivered letters from TGS Middle School students who are involved in the Japanese/Australian pen pal programme.

After eating delicious Bento boxes for lunch prepared by our host families, we swept and cleaned the classrooms before the next lesson.

At the end of the day, we presented gifts to the Principal of Shinjo East who made us feel very welcome. He is very excited to visit Townsville in the near future.

After school, Shinjo students in the Tea Ceremony Club performed a traditional Japanese tea ceremony for our students. We appreciate their hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed this valuable experience!
